Goal

The conditionals: de if-zinnen

Conditional = voorwaarde

• 0 conditional = facts, 100%
• 1st conditional = possible, <100%
• 2nd conditional = improbable, <50%
• 3rd conditional = impossible, 0%

First conditional

Conditional = voorwaarde

First conditional = very possible (almost 100%)

First conditional

Let op! If & will zitten nooit in hetzelfde deel van de zin. (So never in the same clause)

Als... (the if-clause)	dan... (the result-clause)
If + Present Simple	will/won't + infinitive
If you don't study	you will fail the test.
When I'm in London	I will visit Tower of London.

Finish the sentence with your own idea:

Never If & will/would in same part of the sentence!

Possible future situations

– The if-clause can be in the beginning or at the end of the sentence.

e.g. If I have a dog, I will look after it. 

                               = 

      I will look after it, if I have a dog.

– ‘If not’ can be replaced by ‘unless’.

e.g. Unless it rains, I will go to the beach. 

= If it doesn’t rain, I will go to the beach.
