Uncountable nouns

Uncountable nouns don’t have a plural form and you cannot put a or an in front of it. Uncountable nouns are for instance concepts and materials etc that we cannot divide into separate elements. We cannot “count” them.

For example we cannot count ‘music’. But you can count a song (a song, two songs, three songs etc) but not ‘music’ itself.

Countable nouns

Countable nouns are easy to recognize. They are things that we can count. For example ‘apple’

We can count apples, we can have one, two, three or more apples.

When a countable noun is singular, you have to use a word such as:

a or an/the/my/this.

You will notice that if you do not do this, the sentence sounds incorrect.
