How many layers do you think the earth has?

Slide 2 - Question ouverte

What are the layers of the Earths crust?

Slide 3 - Question ouverte

There are four major layers to the Earth:
  • CRUST
  • MANTLE
  • OUTER CORE
  • INNER CORE

Slide 4 - Diapositive

Slide 5 - Vidéo

CRUST
  • The outer most layer
  • Covers the earth like a shell
  • The layer where we live
  • The thinnest layer

Slide 6 - Diapositive

MANTLE
  • The layer right below the crust
  • Made of rocks and ice
  • The largest and thickest layer

Slide 7 - Diapositive

OUTER CORE
  • Made of liquid iron and nickel
  • Creates magnetic field of the entire planet

Slide 8 - Diapositive

INNER CORE
  • The inner most layer
  • Solid, made mostly of nickel and iron
  • Temperatures as high as 5200oC
  • Helps to create magnetic field of earth

Sedimentary Rocks

Slide 12 - Carte mentale

ROCKS
Sedimentary rock is made up of pieces of older rocks.
It consists of separate grains in layers

Slide 13 - Diapositive

Sedimentary rocks are porous – they have gaps between grains.
Because the grains are usually rounded the rocks are soft – they can easily be scratched

Slide 14 - Diapositive

There are many different types of sedimentary rocks. Their appearance depends on the pieces of rock (sediments) from which they are formed.
