Messi kicks the ball across the field. 

The ball is kicked across the field.

Passive zie je vaak in handleidingen en instructies. 

Passive is "to be" + volt deelw

We built a house - the house was built.

We are building a house - the house is being built.

We will build a house - the house will be built.

Pete eats an apple  - the apple is eaten. 

Pete has eaten an apple - the apple has been eaten. 

Pete is eating an apple - the apple is being eaten. 

Als een zin in de toekomende tijd staat, dan wordt de passive ook toekomend. Zelfde geldt voor verleden/voltooide tijd, duurvorm.

"to be" kan in verschillende tijden staan. 

Voltooid deelwoord regelmatig: ww + ed

Voltooid deelwoord onregelmatig: eigen vorm, zie blz 241 boek B.
