When your quote is longer than 4 lines you do not use quotation marks, rather set it off from your text. Do reference the author

Paraphrasing is using your own words to say what happens in the book​
The party that the Lisbon sisters have signifies/illustrates the tension between freedom and restriction, as they are allowed to have a party even though their parents need to supervise every aspect of it. For example the moment when Mr. Lisbon opens the door to the guests (Eugenides, 64).​

For measurement or quantity we use a singular verb: ​
