Újabb szófaj, aminél tricky dolgokkal találkozunk: fokozás és melléknevekkel való összehasonlítás 


FOKOZÁS: Pont, mint magyarul 
alapfok (nagy) /középfok (nagyobb) /felsőfok (legnagyobb)

Angolul viszont két különböző módszerrel tudjuk képezni. Azt, hogy melyiket kell alkalmaznunk, a szótagszám dönti el. Szótagszámot kiejtés alapján számolunk!
nice = 1 szótag     beautiful = 3 szótag   famous = 2 szótag

Tehát:   old - older - the oldest
             beautiful - more beautiful - the most beautiful

Az -y végű melléknevek a toldalékolás során -i-vé alakulnak

A far jelentése: messze, távol
Ha valami térben távoli: far-farther-the farthest
Ha valami időben messzebbi, esetleg további: far-further-the furthest

Ugyanúgy három fokozat:
Alapfok:    Kati olyan magas, mint Elek.    →Kati is as tall as Elek.
Középfok: Kati magasabb, mint Elek.        →Kati is taller than Elek.
Felsőfok:   Kati a legmagasabb az osztályban. →Kati is the tallest in the class.
