Use of adjectives - 1

-We use adjectives to describe nouns.

Most adjectives can be used in front of a noun:

They have a beautiful house.

We saw a very exciting film last night.

Very is an adverb!! Not adjective!

Use of adjectives - 2

-or after a link verb be, seem, become:

Their house is beautiful.

That film seems interesting.

For the following slides, fill in all the adjectives in the text

Homer Simpson is a lazy man. He never completes his work. When he arrives at his office, he only sleeps on his desk. He never listens to his boss. He gets angry when somebody eats his donuts. He says to people, “Don’t touch my donuts! Those are not your donuts, they are my donuts!” Homer must take better care of his health because his stomach is very fat.

Lisa is an excellent student because she always does her homework. In her school she is the best in her class. She loves to play her saxophone loudly. When her brother is annoying, she says to him: “go and play with your toys or I will tell our parents!” Her favourite subject at school is Science.

The Simpsons’ dog is a naughty pet because it never eats its dog food. The dog eats the Simpsons’ sofa. The dog eats their dirty socks. The dog eats their shoes! The Simpsons love their dog because it is part of their family.

Marge is the mother. She loves her family so much. She always tells Bart and Lisa: “Clean your messy rooms!” but the children don’t always listen to her instructions very well. Bart says to his mum: “We don’t want to clean our rooms, we want to play with our favourite toys”.

What is the use of adjectives in language?

1. They can help you be more specific
2. They can help you describe things
3. They can make your text prettier
4. They have no use

Compound adjectives DIY

The fun thing about compound adjectives is that we can make our own!

Example: You can call a colour princess-pink or night-black. A person could be Beyoncé-cool or cheeta-fast. 

Stick to the rules on the previous slides. For example, you can't do adjective + adjective like sweet-nice or mean-bad.
