Ending & Moral
The beautiful water snakes have been blessed, the mariner is able to pray again and the albatros falls of his neck (= freed himself from the burden)
The dead men on the ship have become happy spirits, but there are two voices that the mariner hears. One voice asks if he killed the albatros and the other one asks if he has done enough penance for his act.

Ending & Moral
The ship sails back into the harbour and the mariner asks if the holy hermit will wash him of his sins. 
The mariner is taken off the ship while the ship drowns into a whirlpool. 
The mariner is freed of agony, but not of guilt. In order to free himself from this he has to tell his story over and over again. 
"He who loves all god's creatures will lead a happier life."

- Lost both his parents quite young, raised by relatives
- Walking tour of Europe --> French Revolution
-  fell in love with Annette Vallon, had a bastard daughter
- married Mary Hutchinson, had five kids of which two died.
- lost the will to write later in life due to the death of his daughter
1798: The Lyrical Ballads with Coleridge (everyday language and presenting an original way of looking at nature.)
