Why does Louis XVI assemble the estates?
1) The expenses of the french royal court were high. The royal family lived in luxury.
2)Louis XVI had a lot of debt of waged wars.

Louis XVI needed money. The nobilty and clergy only wanted to pay if they got more influence. So he gave up his absolute power and gathered the 3 estates in the States general.
