past simple

- fixed time (yesterday, last year, at breakfast time, etc)

- important when exactly it happened

- start and stop in the past

- ~ed or irr verbs with own forms

- in negations use did not/ didn't + verb 

- in questions use did + verb?

examples

I walked in the dark. 

Did he clean his room last night? 

They didn't write that story. 

present perfect

- not important when exactly it happened

- or start in past and still effect in present (= het nu)

- to have + verb 3 (past participle = voltooid deelwoord)

- important: check if you need has or have
