Cambridge and Oxford, often collectively known as Oxbridge, have been rival universities for centuries. It all started in 1209 when a group of scholars fled the university in Oxford after a dispute with the townspeople. They set up in Cambridge and eventually founded the University of Cambridge. The two universities have been competing ever since.
