Passives

ACTIVE= He is stealing a bike.

ACTIVE

ONDERWERP = WIE /WAT het doet staat vooraan de zin.

PASSIVE: The bike is stolen.

PASSIVE

DE ACTIE  staat vooraan. NIET wie het doet

Passive

Active: het onderwerp 'doet' zelf iets.

Passive: het onderwerp doet zelf niets, maar 'ondergaat' iets.

The passive tense 

Wanneer: Om aan te geven wat er is gebeurd. Wie het heeft gedaan is niet zo belangrijk. 

Hoe: Lijdend voorwerp + to be + voltooid deelwoord

Passive = form of 'to be' + past participle

Wie toevoegen

Wil je toevoegen 'wie' de actie uitvoert?

Dan kan je  'by' toe voegen en daarna de persoon/ding achter aan de zin te zetten.

The shoplifter was caught by the police.

Let op!

Wil je toevoegen wie de actie uitvoert en staat er een tijdsbepaling in de zin?

Dan komt eerste de persoon en dan de tijd.

Staat de tijd vooraan de zin, dan laat je deze zo staan.

The shoplifter was caught by the police yesterday.        Good

Yesterday the shoplifter was caught by the police.         Good

The shoplifter was caught yesterday by the police.         Bad
