Linking words

Linking words are used to join two sentences together.

A few examples of linking words are: and, but, because. 

These linking words each have a different meaning, which shows you in what way the two sentences are connected.

Linking words

(1) Khaoula is doing her homework. (2) She is listening to music.

Khaoula is doing her homework and she is listening to music. 

(addition to the previous sentence)

Linking words

(1) Abdelhadi posted the picture on Instagram. (2) I didn’t like it.

Abdelhadi posted the picture on Instagram, but I didn’t like it.

(contrast with the previous sentence)

Linking words

(1) I read the newspaper sometimes. (2) I want to know what’s going on.

I read the newspaper sometimes, because I want to know what’s going on.

(reason for the previous sentence)

Husein thinks hashtags are silly ... I agree with him.
