= Voorzetsels

Prepositions

Prepositions zijn voorzetsels. 

We behandelen twee soorten: 

Prepositions of place: deze zeggen iets over waar iets gebeurt.

Prepositions of movement: deze zeggen iets over waar je/iets naar toe gaat. 

Preposition of place

In                           -        in   (in school, in the supermarket)

on                          -       op  (on the table, on top of the hill, letterlijk)

at                           -       bij (at the restaurant, at the shop)

from                     -       uit/vanaf (from the station, from the start)

next to                 -      naast (next to the TV, next to the bar)

in front of           -      voor (in front of the tv, in front of the office)

behind                 -      achter (behind the scenes, behind the door)

Prepositions of place

Besides            -     naast    (But besides that it's okay)

Between          -     tussen  (it's between the TV and the chair)

among              -     tussen  (he's among friends)

above                -     boven    (It's above the stove) 

over                    -     boven    (recht naar boven: Go over that hill.) 

below                -      onder   (Lager dan: It's 20 degrees below zero.)

under                -      onder    (Recht onder: It's under the bed.)

Prepositions of movement/direction 

by                      -  naar

from                -  vandaan

over                  -  over 

to                       -  naar

through          -  door

across             -  over 

towards          -  naartoe

Prepositions of direction/movement

Om aan te geven hoe je ergens naar toe gaat gebruik je by.

Voorbeelden:

by car, by boat, by train, by bike, by bus, by ferry, by plane

Let op!

Als je te voet gaat zeg je : by foot of on foot. 

Als je ergens naar toe gaat gebruik je vaak from en to. 

I travel from my house to school by bus. 

Let op!

Veel leerlingen maken de fout door het voorzetsel soms letterlijk te vertalen. 

Let op: 

Ik zit op school --> I am at school

dus niet: I am on school 

want dan zit je letterlijk bovenop de school 

--> Op het dak van de school.
