BLISS INVESTIGATES BOOZE
Drinking may seem fun, but its after-effects can be a lot worse than a hangover. So how much is too much?
(1) Lindsay Grant should be doing her GCSEs this year. She should be hanging out with her friends, meeting boys and looking at all the clothes in the shops. But Lindsay can't do any of this, because she died in August after 'drinking herself to death'

(2) Her distraught mum told the inquest that her 'perfect' daughter wasn't interested in drinking. She used to lecture us, saying we shouldn't have to drink to have a good time,' she said. But while on holiday, at a caravan park in north Wales, 15-year-old Lindsay downed half a bottle of vodka and passed out. Twelve hours later she died from heart failure. One of her friends was treated for alcohol poisoning.

(3) Government figures reveal more teenagers are drinking than ever before. They're also starting at a younger age. One survey estimates that 13 year olds are drinking eight unites of alcohol (that's four pints of lager or eight glasses of wine or spirits) a week.

(4) Emma, 16, from Bolton, has been drinking since she was 12. 'I hate waking up with a hangover, but it's what me and my mates do. I'd feel left out if I didn't join in.'

(5) And if Emma wants a drink she has a greater choice than ever before thanks to the introduction of alcopops - alcoholic drinks that taste like soft drinks. Watchdog bodies like The Portman Group and Alcohol Concern are concerned that the naming and packaging of alcopops are designed to appeal to under 18s.
