What? Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip first met in 1934. When the Princess was 21, their engagement was announced on 9 July 1947 and they married on 20 November that year.

What? Her grandfather King George V, died in 1936. Her uncle got the throne but gave it up to marry the woman he loved. Hence their father became king in 1937.
