Rock salt proves that the Netherlands was once situated in a desert zone.

How were these rock salt layers formed?

• The Netherlands was once a shallow marginal sea
• dry climate > water evaporated > salt left behind

2. Read: 'The consequences for inhabitants'  Then answer: Why do earthquakes occur in the Netherlands?
3. Use the atlas. Find the map of the Netherlands on which you can find the area with the most earthquakes due to gas extraction.
