SE speaking

GOAL : prep you for SE speaking & presentation

REQUIRED before the SE:

1. APPROVED presentation topic

2. PPT presentation

3. Prepare speaking topics - see page 3

4. Expand useful vocab/phrase knowledge

format of the exam

1. Presentation: takes between 5 and 7 minutes

2. Conversation: takes approximately 10 minutes

          spider web with central question: 4 minutes

          more general questions: 6 minutes

- for topics look at page 3- start thinking about the topics, what do you know about them?

-your job is to make sure you talk long enough but also that it is not too short, otherwise points will be deducted both in the presentation and/or conversation

-you both need an equal part in what you say

* practise conversation - speaking exam

* work on your PP for your presentation during the SE

* make progress with Kite Runner

Tuesday 20/12 period 1

* Team up with your partner for the speaking SE

* practise part 3 first on page 24. Set the timer for 4 minutes and look at your sheet with phrases. Use as many as you can and also look at phrases at the back of your reader

* discuss and random group will be asked to show their skills

* practise part 4 page part 4 

        first talk for 2 minutes straight about question 1

        discuss and then proceed with the rest

A word of warning on the general progress in class

1. Make changes and hand in again for approval TODAY:

1. Start working on PPT for presentation

2. Before the actual SE, I need you to hand in your full presentation to speed up the process during the exam. I will make arrangements

Your presentation

1.your PP must only have pictures (that are instrumental to the presentation) and individual words

2. your presentation is 5 - 7 minutes (and not a lot longer or shorter!)

3. you are not allowed to use a cheatsheet

4. do not learn everything by heart, as you will get confused and it is not natural

5. use linking words, that will give structure to your speech

7. make sure there is a logical build-up

8. think about the start of your presentation

9. humour always helps (see Jamie Olivers ted talk - link on page 9)
