Slide 1 - Question ouverte

§7.2 Exponential growth
The learning goals are:
+  how to recognise exponential growth
+  how to find the growth factor

Slide 2 - Diapositive

 §7.2 Exponential growth (??!)
Some basic knowledge
about Exponential growth.
After all, that is what this § is about!

Slide 3 - Diapositive

Exponential growth
If you multiply a number by the same factor, every time, for the same increase in units of time, we say there is exponential growth

If there is exponential growth, we call the factor you multiply by, the growth factor.

Example: The number of bacteria  increases by 50% every day.

Slide 4 - Diapositive

Exponential growth
If there is exponential growth, we call the factor you multiply by, the growth factor.

We even call it this, if the factor you multiply by is between 0 and 1 (so a decrease !).

Example: The number of trees decrease bij 20% every year --> New amount is 80.

Slide 5 - Diapositive

Exponential growth
To check IF a table or graph corresponds to exponential growth, you have to calculate the growth factor for each pair of consecutive amounts. Because amounts are often rounded off, the growth factor is only approximately the same every time.

Now follows

on personal
growth!

Task:
Now do 'd', using your Calculator.
FIVE calculations are asked from you!
Write them all down in your Notebook.
Finally COMPARE the five answers and draw a CONCLUSION.
