Population of China was growing too fast.

Government felt they needed to enforce this law, to protect the country from overpopulation. 

Law in China: Parents are only allowed to get one child.

It is estimated that this policy prevented four hunderd million births.

There where exceptions to the law for example twins.

People preferred boys. 

There where a lot of abortions and abandonings of baby's. 
For example if the baby was a  girl or physically disabled.

If the one child policy was a policy all around the world. That would be a good way to help prevent our planet for overpopulation.
