the plural: in brief
  • - in general, you add an "s" at the end of the word to make the plural form, like in English.
  • - There are some exceptions. One of them is adding "x" to words ending in -eau (Ex : oiseau --> oiseaux)
  • - unlike in English, the final "s" or "x" is not pronounced. So when you hear a word, you don't know if it is singular or plural.
  • - you use "les" in front of the substantive in the plural form. This word, and the way it is pronounced, helps you identify if people are talking about singular or plural form.
