Main idea (Hoofdgedachte)?

The main idea is the most important idea or thought in a text, audio clip or video. 

It is what the speaker wants to make clear to the listener. It usually becomes clear at the beginning of the clip. 

The main idea (2) of a text

Often the speaker repeats or summarises it later on. 

Pay attention to words like so, therefore or like I said before. These words are at the beginning of a sentence in which the main idea is given.

How to find the main idea?

Figure out the topic (onderwerp) of the text

Ask yourself:

What does this text say about the topic?

Questions?
