Mastering the Past Simple: Verbs and Questions

At the end of the lesson, you will be able to confidently use the past simple tense to form affirmative, negative, and interrogative sentences. You will also be able to identify and use irregular past simple verbs.

Past Simple: Overview

The past simple tense is used to talk about completed actions in the past. It is formed by adding '-ed' to regular verbs or using irregular verb forms.

Affirmative Sentences

In affirmative sentences, we use the base form of the verb for regular verbs and the irregular past form for irregular verbs.

Negations

To make negative sentences, we use the auxiliary verb 'did not' (didn't) before the base form of the verb.

Questions

To form questions, we use the auxiliary verb 'did' before the subject and the base form of the verb.
