Lesson aim and success criteria
  • Lesson aim: At the end of this lesson you will be able to write an informal email to a friend abroad, in which you will describe how you spent your Christmas holidays using a minimum of 150 words.

Success criteria:
1. You will be able to use at least six adjectives from a list to describe your Christmas holidays experiences in the email.
2. You will be able to describe three things that took place, using the past simple -> regular (verb+ed) or irregular verbs.
3. You will be able to use the structure of writing an informal email.

Task + peer-assessment
Have a look at the list of adjectives and think about which adjectives you can use to describe your Christmas holidays then look at the handout (Grammar and writing).
Read the email and reply.
- Share three of your Christmas holidays experiences.
- Use at least six of the adjectives from the list.
- Use the past simple.
- Use a minimum of 150 words.

Structure of informal email
  1. Informal greeting (e.g. Hi, Hey, Hello etc.)
  2. Opening paragraph (Start with answering -> I'm fine, how are you?)
  3. Main body of the text (Describe three things you did during the Christmas holidays, mention everything you want to include.)
  4. Closing paragraph (e.g. Hope to seen you soon!)
  5. Finish your email/signing off (e.g. Love, Best wishes, Bye, etc.)
