In 1951, six countries joined forces to control coal and steel production. The European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) is created.

The ECSC was a success. The countries made new agreements, such as the abolition of border controls. This made trading much easier. With these new agreements, the ECSC became the European Economic Community (EEC).
