About the Essay

When: June 4, 14.30 untill 15.30 (60 min)

Where: from home, see ELO opdrachten (the test will be posted here, with instructions. Read them carefully.)

It will be an argumentative essay.

Then, go to ELO and carefully read "essay format and assignment"

Check your own essay with the format, do you have all the elements?

Remember

• avoid starting sentences with and, but or because
  
• don’t use contractions, they’re informal
• learn your linking words, simple but effective!
  
• don’t address your reader, or speak about yourself
• you have a limited amount of words, use them wisely

How to Score Points

I will be looking for:

• complex sentence structures
  
• correct use of grammar (think about your tenses!)
  
• advanced vocabulary
  
• proper content (read your assignment!)
  
• the format & the assigment (EiM grammar)

Alternatives to If

As long as/provided that = usually 1st conditional (making deals)

Imagine/suppose = usually 2nd conditional (imaginary situations)

Unless = 1st & 2nd, means "if not"

Otherwise = 1st conditional (warning what will happen if the condition isn't met)
