Body language: shy, nervous, unhappy to be here
(Read from paper) So, welcome all to today’s presentation. My name is .......... and I am going to tell you all about how to do a presentation. It’s going to be about half an hour long and I will spend a lot of that time reading off my slides as I have written down everything I want to say.
Or…...

Walk back to door to signal fresh start.
Body language: open, upbeat, happy to be here

Walk to center, stand still and smile around the room

‘I have been here before,
But when or how I cannot tell:
I know the grass beyond the door,
The sweet keen smell,
The sighing sound, the lights around the shore.’

This is the start of a poem, by Dante Rossetti. I found this a really suitable metaphor for when you stand in front of a group and you have to present and you first look around the room and see all the expectant faces and the butterflies in your stomach go berserk.

‘I have been here before’ is a reminder for me that I’ve got this. I can do this presentation and I can help you find your angle to hook your audience. During this class, we’ll be looking at the steps and different methods you can use to hook your audience.

Just in case you’re wondering why I have a photo of my dog behind me, he is the one I practise all my presentations with so I thought he should get some credit for that.
Let's watch....
and listen to the steps given for writing that killer introduction to hook your audience before you've even started talking about your book.
