Make a sentence with the following words:

Subject - Verb - Object

For word order we need to know the following:

The subject of a sentence (NL: onderwerp)

The verb   (NL: werkwoord)

The object (NL: lijdend voorwerp)

Identify the S-V-O

The dog chases a man.

The man chases a dog.

Subject Verb Object

The dog  chases a man.

The man chases a dog.

Identify the S-V-O

1- I ate Chinese last night.

2- John is meeting Mark in the office at 10am.

3- President Trump visited the Queens at Buckingham Palace last year.

4- 10 minutes ago the dog was chasing the man in the park.

Subject Verb Object

I ate chinese last night.

John is meeting Mark in the office at 10am.

President Trump visited the Queen at Buckingham Palace last year.

10 minutes ago the dog was chasing the man in the park.

Where was the dog chasing the man?

When was the dog chasing the man?

Place and time

Place is always at the end of the sentence.

Eg The dog was chasing the man in the park

Time can be placed at the start or at the end of the sentence.

Last week the dog was chasing the man in the park

The dog was chasing the man in the park last week.

Place always comes before time.

Word order and questions

Word order and questions

Questions use a helping verb (hulp ww) at the start of the sentence. 

Examples of helping verbs are: did, could, would, may, might, shall...

Examples of word order and questions

Did the dog chase a cat?

Will the dog chase a man in the park?

Shall I call the dog?

May the dog have a biscuit?

Adjectives of frequency (bijwoorden)

Always

Frequently

Usually

Sometimes

Rarely

Never...

Words which describe how often the dog chases the man..

Always

NL: Bijwoorden!

These words are placed between the subject and the verb.

(NL: Bijwoorden worden geplaatst tussen het onderwerp en het werkwoord).

eg The dog always chases the man in the park.

The dog never chases  a car.

The dog frequently chases cyclists.
