Lesson aims

After this lesson you can:

• Correctly use the relative pronouns;
• Correctly change a sentence from active to passive.

Relative pronouns

• Who: people
• Which: things
• That: people and things (if there is no comma)

Relative pronouns

• "He is somebody who/that sings in the shower."
• "It was the table which/that you just moved."
• "My book, which I have recently finished, is about to be published."

Relative pronouns

• Not the subject = left out
• The subject ≠ left out
• "They are the artist I listen to most." -> "I" is the subject
• "That is the cat which/that followed me home."

Relative pronouns

• Whose: possessive
• Whom: after prepositions like "to, for, on, by"
• Where: place
• When: time

Passive

• Het onderwerp ondergaat iets
• "The book was written (by them)."
• Actief = onderwerp voert iets uit
• "They wrote the book."

Passive

• To be + voltooid deelwoord (present perfect tense)
• Tegenwoordige tijd = am/are/is + voltooid deelwoord
• Verleden tijd = was/were + voltooid deelwoord

Passive

• Active: I read the book.
• Passive: The book was read (by me).
• Active: Many people speak English.
• Passive: English is spoken by many people. 

They write many stories in their notebook.

1. Many stories were written in their notebook.
2. Many stories are written in their notebook.
3. They are written many stories in their notebook.
4. In their notebook they write many stories.

They take many pictures during their holidays.
