Transport in India

LO:  I can identify transport in India and how it differs from the UK.

Name as many forms of transport as you can.

India has many cars, buses and lorries, just like the UK.  Cities are busy and full of traffic.

The main means of transportation in India are trains, buses and ferries.

What are the main means of transport in the UK?

The following pictures show some means of transport in rural Indian villages.

(rural means in the countryside, not the city).

In towns and cities people often travel in rickshaws or on tuk-tuks.

Tuk tuks are small & travel easily through traffic.  Indian cities are very crowded as there are so many people in India.

Tuk tuks are often brightly decorated.

Many people travel on bicycles and motorbikes in India.

Just like here in the UK.

There are also trams in some big cities in India, just like in the UK. 

These trams are in Manchester.

Why is transport so crowded in India?

1. It's hot.
2. It's expensive.
3. There are so many people.
4. It's fun.

Why are people not allowed to travel on top of trains in the UK?

1. It's too cold.
2. It's dangerous.
3. It's too hot.
4. There's no room.

Where are you likely to see carts pulled by bullocks or donkeys?

1. In UK towns
2. In Indian cities
3. In UK villages
4. In the Indian countryside.
