  • learn about Plato's theory of the Forms and the questions it tries to answer.
  • find out why Plato argued for the existence of a soul.

The theory of Forms
  • Everything is in a constant state of change.
  • How can the world contain true knowledge, if what we are investigating is changing from moment to moment?
  • Mathematical truths do not change 2+2 will always equal four, triangles will always have three sides.
  • Plato believed that you could obtain this level of truth about all objects.
  • He postulated that there must be other realities of which we can have true and certain knowledge.
  • This is the world of the Forms that is unchanging and eternal.
