Grammar - past perfect vs past perfect continuous

1. We often use  'for'  and  'since'  with the perfect

2. The past perfect is used with a completed action/situation in the past

The leaves had fallen from the trees and they were completely bare.

3. The past perfect continuous is used for an action in the past that was still ongoing

The leaves had been falling from the trees and the underground was very slippery. 

(the leaves were still falling, the leaves were not bare yet)

Writing assignment: Press Release (summative)

Now that you have practiced writing the first formative assignment about your field trips to Rotterdam and Amsterdam, you are ready to start writing the final press release in the coming weeks. You are writing the press release on behalf of the tourism board in Rotterdam (or Amsterdam or Haarlem) (so from a different perspective, not from a student point of view). The press release is about the promotion of a chosen district in Rotterdam (or Amsterdam or Haarlem) by students. The press release is about students from Inholland University submitting an Instagram page which is dedicated to promoting tourism in their respective city. Student(s) will receive an Instagram Giveaway Prize from the Tourism Board for the most “Instagrammable” Instagram page on their chosen district.

In order to make sure you have all the important elements included in your final press release, you must first answer the 5W questions (who, what, where, when, why). This press release will be about students providing more information about their  chosen district. You write from a different writing view, namely from the tourism board. You are going to write an effective press release. So, the final products which you will upload into Gradework are:

1.  A Word document with the identical text as the Instagram page for your Press Release

• Include a written reflection of 250 words (+/- 10%) about the writing process throughout term 1.1 and add to the assignment.

· 350-word limit (+/- 10 %)

· The 5Ws are fully and adequately answered

· Apply the instructions presented in class with regards the layout

· Paragraphs are separated by a white line spacing

· Font and font size: Calibri 12pt

· Submit document as a Word document only (not PDF or any other file).

· Your text level must reach a full B1+ level, which you can check using the Road to Grammar Text Analyzer (www.roadtogrammar.com)
