What is an opinion?

An opinion is a belief, judgement 

or way of thinking about something.

What are ways of giving your opinion?

In my opinion... , I feel... , I think... ,

I would say that ... , I believe that... , etc etc

How do you write or speak about your opinion?

O- opinion: tell how you feel about something

R- reason: tell why you feel this way about something

E- example (/evidence): give 1-3 examples why you feel this way

O- opinion: tell your opinion one more time + your feeling

Theory: OREO

O - opinion: tell the reader how you feel about something;

write your opinion in a sentence.

> In my opinion (or: eyes)... As far as I am concerned... 

From my point of view... I would say that... I have no doubt that...

For the example we will use the topic: recycling

"I think we should start recycling at home."

Theory: OREO

R - reason: what is the reason why you feel this way, why someone else should believe you?

> you can use: because..., because of..., that's why...

For the example we will use the topic: recycling

"Because recycling is easy to do! We can put the recycling bin by the trash can to help us remember."

E - example / evidence: what is an example that supports your opinion OR what is evidence that supports your opinion?

> Try to give examples or quote something from the text (if there is a text) "The BBC writes that..."

For the example we will use the topic: recycling

"Recycling helps reduce the amount of garbage sitting in landfills. On top of that, recycling reduces pollution."

Theory: OREO

O - opinion: repeat your opinion but use different words this time, it summarises what you just wrote about. 

> To summarise..., Therefor..., Finally/lastly/ultimately...

For the example we will use the topic: recycling

"Therefor, my opinion is that we should recycle at home."

Theory: OREO

"I think we should start recycling at home. Because recycling is easy to do! We can put the recycling bin by the trash can to help us remember. Recycling helps reduce the amount of garbage sitting in landfills. On top of that, recycling reduces pollution. Therefor, my opinion is that we should recycle at home."

Practice: Snowball writing

1. Je kiest een onderwerp. Schrijf op je blaadje het OW + je naam.

2. Je geeft je mening over dit onderwerp, denk aan het OREO model.

3. Na +- 15 minuten frommel je het blaadje op in een papieren sneeuwbal en gooit het door de klas, waardoor het bij iemand anders terecht komt.

3. Je pakt een 'snowball', leest de mening van schrijver 1.

4. Je geeft je mening over het onderwerp, je mag ook reageren op schrijver 1 

5. Na +- 15 minuten verzamelen we alle werken en geef je ze aan mij.

>>>>> Je werkt alleen in stilte. Ik wil minimaal 10 zinnen zien waarin je mening duidelijk naar voren komt.
