DIRECT SPEECH
  1. "I like ice cream."
  2. "I am living in Paris."
  3. "I bought a car."
  4. "I haven't seen my teacher in a while."
  5. "I had finished the work before the bell rang."
  6. "We were walking along the street."
  7. "I will see you later."
  8. "I am going to do my homework this afternoon."


INDIRECT SPEECH
  1. He said that he liked ice cream.
  2. He said that he was living in Paris.
  3. She said she had bought a car. 
  4. She said she hadn't seen her teacher in a while.
  5. He said he had finished his work before the bell rang.
  6. They said they had been walking along the street.
  7. He said he would see me later.
  8. She said she was going to do her homework this afternoon.

Direct vs Indirect speech
In pairs, take a look at the exercise provided:

  1. Underline the verb(s) in each sentence.
  2. Decide which tense is applied in each 
sentence, for both direct and indirect speech.
Tip: Use p. 7 & 8 ;)

1. "I like ice cream." = present simple


2. "I am living in Paris." = present continuous


INDIRECT SPEECH (Present)


1. He said that he liked ice cream. = past simple

2. He said that he was living in Paris. = past continuous

3. She said she had bought a car. = past perfect
4. She said she hadn't seen her teacher in a while. = past perfect

5. He said he had finished his work before the bell rang. = past perfect
6. They said they had been walking along the street. = past perfect continuous

7. "I will see you later." = will + verb (future simple)

8. "I am going to do my homework this afternoon." = to be going to (future)


INDIRECT SPEECH (Future)

7. He said he would see me later. = would + verb

8. She said she was going to do her homework this afternoon. = was + going to + verb
