The future tense

Have a look at the following examples.

 Which words in the sentence indicate that it is about the future?

• How was the future formed in the 3 sentences you just saw?
• will + infinitive (hele werkwoord)

Example sentences:

I will read this book tonight

I will get you some coffee

He will buy her a present

Now have a look at the next examples. Which words are used to talk about the future?

We are going to have our Thanksgiving dinner next weekend!

I am going to go to the cinema with my friend on Sunday. We already bought tickets!

• am/ are / is + going to + hele werkwoord

Example sentences:

• What are you going to do after class? I'm going to play soccer.
• We are going to have our Thanksgiving dinner next weekend!
• I am going to go to the cinema with my friend on Sunday. We already bought tickets!

You just saw 2 ways of talking about the future:

• will + hele werkwoord
• am/are / is + going to + hele werkwoord
