Ontkenningen

Als er in een zin een vorm van to be (am / are / is) of een hulpwerkwoord (bijv. can / should / may) staat, dan maak je een ontkenning door not/ n't daarachter te zetten.

She is a lawyer.

She is not a lawyer.

 

Horses can fly. 

Horses cannot/can't fly.

 

She should take some time off. 

She should not take some time off.

Have got

Ontkenningen met have got / has got maak je met haven't got / hasn't got

(Have not got/ has not got)

I, you, we, they: HAVEN'T/ HAVE NOT GOT

He, she, it: HASN'T / HAS NOT GOT 

They have got a restaurant.

They haven't got a restaurant.

 

She has got nice clothes.

She hasn't got nice clothes.

Bij andere werkwoorden zet je don't / do not voor het werkwoord.

Bij he/she/it wordt dit doesn't / does not. 

Omdat de -s nu al in does voorkomt, laat je de s achter het werkwoord weg.

They live in Spain. 

They don't live in Spain.

 

You travel by train.

You do not travel by train.

 

She works in that building.

She doesn't work in that building.

 

He likes football.

He does not like football.

In de verleden tijd zet je in plaats van does, did voor het werkwoord.

Het werkwoord krijgt dan niet de vorm met -ed, maar het hele werkwoord zonder to.

They visited Manchester.

They didn't visit Manchester.

She worked at an animalshelter last summer.

She didn't work at an animal shelter last summer. 

I like listening to rap music.

I have got a lot of books.

She is a very funny person.

Bijvoegelijke naamwoord

Bijvoegelijk naamwoord

Om iets of iemand te beschrijven + zegt iets of het zelfstandig naamwoord. 

She has long hair - zij heeft lang haar

My friend has a big house - mijn vriend heeft een groot huis

I am wearing a beautiful dress - ik draag een mooie jurk

Bijwoord

Om te beschrijven hoe iemand iets doet.

Een bijwoord zegt iets over het werkwoord.

He ran quickly - hij rende snel.

They sang beautifully  - ze zongen prachtig.

She swims well - ze zwemt goed.

She sings (beautiful).

That is a really (smart) answer.

I asked her (nice) to pass me the salt.

This is an (adorable) baby.
