Past Simple Questions

Er zijn drie manieren om de past simple questions te maken

Manier 1: was/were en auxiliary verbs zoals could en would staan aan het begin van de zin

For example:

- Was your friend glad to see you?

- Were you guys alone yesterday?

- Could you see anything?

- Would you like to go out tonight?

Past Simple - Questions

Vragen met GEWONE werkwoorden:

Did + onderwerp + infinitief (ik-vorm)

• Did we buy the tree?

OOK MET ONREGEMATIGE WERKWOORDEN!!! 

Gewoon de infinitief gebruiken!!! 

Make a WH- question in the past simple.

Make a WH- question in the past simple.

WH-questions in the past: WH + did + subject + verb

Where did you live last year?

How could you move to the United States five years ago?

Where were you yesterday?

• Remember we don't like double past!: Where did you lived...What did you did... xxx

1. Susanna watched her brother lose.

•  Did Susanna watch her brother lose?

2. Your parents were incredibly happy together.

• Were your parents incredibly happy together?

3. He loved his grandchildren like they were his own.

• Did he love his grandchildren like they were his own?

past simple (ontkennen)

• past simple = verleden tijd

• Ontkenningen in de past simple maak je met:                 didn't + werkwoord
• She played a game. > She didn't play a game.

• LET OP: je zet dus GEEN -(e)d achter het werkwoord!

Past Simple: ontkennende zin

  - Vorm:
   didn't (did not) + hele werkwoord
   They did not work at all!

Grammar explanation

Past Simple ontkennening:


  Als er could, should of would in de zin staat (=hulpwerkwoorden), dan is er GEEN did in de zin. Je gebruikt dan not achter het hulpwerkwoord, en het werkwoord zonder to.

She couldn't make it. 
I wouldn't say that.
You shouldn't do that.

• She was not/wasn't my girlfriend

2. I could see the Mona Lisa in Paris

• I could not/ couldn't see the Mona Lisa in Paris.

3. Lucy did stay at a fancy hotel.

• Lucy did not/didn't stay at a fancy hotel.
