Lesson Goal

At the end of this session  you can 

recognise

the correct form of the future tense 

to sentences with a clear context and/or clear signal words.

What is the difference?

We are going to have a party tomorrow.

We are having a party tomorrow.

We will have a party tomorrow.

Future 

• schedules events = present simple:  

• Arrangements in future.                

The bus leaves at 8 pm. 

Time and place are known/agreed upon. = present continuous: - to be + ing vorm

Future 

• Plannen, voorspellingen op basis van bewijs: 

• Beloftes, beslissingen, voorspellingen zonder bewijs: 

to be going to + infinitive: 

you're going to lose that girl if you don't change your behaviour.

      In het NL: vaak vertaald met 'gaan'.

Black Story - Something fishy

There's a dead man on the floor of a telephone box. The panes of glass are broken and there's blood everywhere. Lying in front of the phone box is a large fish .... 

The man was a keen angler. He phoned his best friend to brag about the size of the fish he had just caught (this was in the days that mobile phones were not widely in use, so he was in a phone booth).

Grossly exaggerating and gesticulating wildly, his arms smashed into the glass sides of the phone box, cutting himself. He bled to death.
