Past Simple
Describes completed actions in the past. Formed by adding -ed or irregular verb forms. 

 'I played tennis yesterday.'

Present Perfect
Links the past and present.
Describes past actions with a connection to the present.

Formed with 'have/has + past participle'. 

'I have visited Paris.'

Describes ongoing actions that started in the past and continue into the present. 

Formed with 'have/has been + present participle'. 

 'She has been studying all day.'
