Quick Overview (1)

• Past simple
  When something happened in the past. 
  WW+ed (and irregular forms)
  Example: I cycled to work yesterday.
• Past continuous
  When something was going on for a while in the past, but then ended.
  was/were  +  ww+ing
  Example: I was doing my homework, when the bell rang.

Quick Overview (2)

• Present Perfect
  When something started in the past and we can still see the effects now.
  have/has  +  past participle (voltooid deelwoord)
  Example: I have been playing football for three years.
