What is an adjective? What does it do?

  • Before a noun 
He is a slow driver = slow tells us what kind of driver he is

  • Or after a linking verb (to be, to feel, to look, to seem) 
That film is fantastic.

It says more about: verbs, adjectives, other adverbs or the whole sentence. 
(Adverbs answer questions how (manner)? where? when?)

When it is used for a verb it is often close to the verb

The man laughed loudly at the joke. 
She listens really well to people.

Adverbs
Examples:
  • My mother sings beautifully.
  • My grandmother drives carefully. 
  • They filmed it perfectly.

  1. My friends dance extremely slowly. 
  2. That is an amazingly big building.

Add = Toevoegen
Verb = Werkwoorden.
Een bijwoord voegt iets toe aan het werkwoord. 

Exreme zegt hier iets over slowly.

Naarmate je meer naar beneden gaat, zie je dat de spelling verandert. Meer uitleg in volgende slide.
Adverbs - spelling rules
 They often end in -ly 

Ends in '-ic'  +  '-ally' Fantastic = fantastically
Ends in '-y', remove '-y' +  '-ily' Easy = Easily
Ends in '-le' remove the '-e' +  '-y'  Simple = Simply 

However many do not end in -ly: fast, late, hard, always, often

Irregular  adverbs
There are also irregular adverbs. The adverb for good is  well - She's a good performer. She performs well. 

A few adverbs have the same form as the adjective.
Fast (snel), fair (sportief/eerlijk), low, high, hard, long, late, and straight (onmiddelijk) - He's a fast driver, He drives fast
