Adverbs and Adjectives

Soms gebruik je een werkwoord + -ing als een zelfstandig naamwoord. Je kunt deze vorm gebruiken na werkwoorden als love, like en hate.

I love going to festivals.

We don’t like writing essays.

Do you hate travelling by bus?

Na want, promise, decide, plan, hope, ask, refuse, expect gebruik je to + het hele werkwoord.

I want to volunteer at the community centre.

They are expecting to get enough money.

We refuse to stop working.

Adverbs

An adverb says something about a verb. It usually comes after the main verb.

Adjectives

As you know, an adjective usually says something about a noun.

It usually comes before the noun.

After verbs such as to be, to look, to taste, to feel, to seem, to smell, to appear you don't use an adverb but an adjective.
