Component 4
The Cambridge Research Report March 2023

Slide 1 - Diapositive

Part I
Focus on CRR
Focus on Research Log

Slide 2 - Diapositive

Part I Why?
Students know:
• What a CRR is
• A possible way to introduce the research question
• A possible structure to follow while writing the CRR
• The difference between themes and perspectives and how to integrate them in a CRR
• How to evaluate sources used in the CRR in an appropriate way
• How to write in an appropriate way
• The importance of referencing

Slide 3 - Diapositive

Part I What?
  • Study the sample CRR provided by Cambridge.
  • Go to your studyplanner GP component 4 and download the pre-activity.
  • While reading and analysing complete the pre-activity tasks.
Try and note all your findings in a way that you can use it as a reference for writing your own CRR.
  • The Research Log

Research Question
A suitable research question that can involve considering different perspectives.

  • Remember different lenses?
  • Social, historical, political, economical, environmental, etc.
  • Contrasting ideas within one field of expertise/science (counterviews).

Important:
Perspective: point of view
Theme: field

The research question

Here, examples of appropriate questions. All questions are focused on a debate:

• Is the framework of war poetry the best method of classifying the work of Wilfred Owen?
• Is the development of an eating disorder infl uenced by culture?
• Is the killing of innocents in war ever justified?
• Is choice an axiom?
• Do the benefits of synthetic biology outweigh the risks?
• Is homeopathy an effective treatment?
The topic must give rise to a question, not a statement or set of topic words. In addition, the question must allow for a debate between alternatives: it cannot ask for a descriptive response.
