in the reader as a preparation for the test
Know the titles, authors and year of creation

Short Stories have the same elements as novels, but usually in a more compact form:

The Open Window

Vera tells Mr Nuttel about a tragic incident in which Mrs. Sappleton lost her husband and her two brothers. She also tells him that her aunt still hopes that they will come back and therefore keeps the window open.

The Open Window is an excellent example of a short story in which the writer illustrates two contrasted attitudes towards life
- Mr Nuttel is nervous and uncertain
- Vera is dramatic with a wild imagination
