Past simple
When to use completed actions in the past, specific time in the past, past habits
Forming the past simple positive Regular verbs: Add -ed to the base form of the verb.
Example: "talk" → "talked"
Forming the past simple negative Use did not (didn’t) + base form of the verb.
"I did not (didn't) play football."
Forming the past simple question Use Did + subject + base form of the verb.
Example: "Did you visit your grandparents?"

You make the past simple of regular verbs by adding -ed or -d to the verb to help – helped
Sometimes, the verb doesn’t change to beat – beat
Sometimes, the final -d changes to -t to build – built
Sometimes, you add -t or -d to the verb and often the vowel changes too to burn – burnt
Sometimes, the ending changes to -ought or -aught to bring – brought
Sometimes, the vowel changes to begin – began
