Mind the clues you get in the sentences, for example after a or the you get a noun. If the missing word is before a noun you get a adjective.
Mind that you sometimes are given the right part of speech but the intention is that you turn it into a negative.

There are different ways to signal a hypothesis or a proposition.
Language used for hypothesising is sensitive to register ( informal/ formal) and context, but there is some overlap and , for example, tone of voice can also turn informal into formal and vice versa.
