You know how to calculate the magnification using a formulae

Physicists use formulas to describe nature. 

We will do the same thing by converting that what we can draw into a formula.

O= height of the object

I = height of the image 

o = object distance

i = image distance

You have already seen that the relationship between the size of the object and its shadow is equal to the ratio between the object distance and the image distance. From now on we will cal this ratio magnification
