Unit 2: Food
When you are writing something, you’ll want your readers to know why you are writing and what it is that you are writing about. You’re going to practise by writing about food and eating habits, as well as practise writing instructions for a recipe.

Topic & Message
The topic of a text describes what the text is about.
The topic is often just one word, for example: Vegemite.
In your text, you also want to make clear what you want to say about the topic: your message about the topic. Usually, you do this in one sentence.
For example: ‘Vegemite tastes unusual, but you should try it.’
To make sure you get the topic and your message across, you can use the topic or message in the title of your text. If possible, you can also include pictures and/or subheadings about the topic.
