Some is used in positive sentences (betekent: enkele/wat)
       She has some apples in her basket

Any is used in negative sentences (betekent:  geen enkele/ helemaal geen) 
        She does not have any apples left.

Some and any in questions

In most questions, you use any
Do you have any sugar? --> The answer could be 'yes' and 'no'.
Are there any apples in the basket? --> The answer could be 'yes' /'no'.

But when you are sure that the answer to your question is 'yes', you use some
Could I have some milk? (The can is on the table)
You look frozen! Would you like some hot choco to warm up?

Wat is "plural"?

Plurals (meervouden)
Most plurals have a regular plural form. You make these words plural by adding an -s.
NEVER use -'s for plural forms!
  • gift - gifts
  • dog - dogs
  • message - messages
  • car - cars

Plurals - Nouns with /sh/-sound
Nouns that end with -s, -ss, -x, -z or ch get -es

  • bus - buses
  • match - matches
  • glass - glasses
  • box - boxes
  • buzz - buzzes

Plurals - Nouns that end in -o
Nouns that end with consonant + o usually get - es
But there are exceptions, these are usually borrowed from other languages. These words get -s in plural form

  • hero - heroes / tomato - tomatoes / echo - echoes
  • exceptions: photo - photos / solo - solos (learn these)

Nouns that end with -f or -fe get -ves

  • shelf - shelves
  • wolf - wolves
  • knife - knives
  • dwarf - dwarves
  • leaf - leaves

1) nouns that end in consonant + y get -ies
2) nouns that end in vowel + y get -s          (vowels: a, e, i, o, u)

  1. party - parties / baby - babies  / hobby  - hobbies 
  2. key - keys  / boy - boys / eye - eyes

Plurals - irregular forms
1) some nouns have irregular plural forms
2) some nouns stay the same in plural form (have no plural)

  1. mouse - mice / woman - women / man - men / foot - feet / tooth - teeth 
  2. one fish - twenty fish / sheep - sheep / moose - moose

    These words need to be learned.
