The present simple often includes the following words:
  • Every
  • Usually
  • Always
  • Never
  • Often

Rules
I, we, and they uses the infinitive
I play basketball every Saturday.
We usually play chess.

She, he, and it uses base (stam) +s
She always walks down here.
It loses it's fur in spring.

exemptions to the rules
You may learn these by heart or naturally
  • Add -es when a verb ends on -s, -x, -z, -ch, and -sh.
  • Add -es when using do and go.
  • Have becomes has
  • If a verb ends on a -y, then replace it with -ies
  • But if there is a vowel (a, e, i, o, u,) in front of the -y then you just add -s

  • We use 'do' or 'does' before the subject to make a yes or no question

  • Do is used for I, we, and they.
  • Does is used for he, she, and it.

Negations in the present simple
  • You make a negative in the present simple by adding don't or doesn't

I don't like apples.
She doesn't do anything.

Negations in the present simple using 'to be'
  • To make a negative using a form of 'to be' in the present simple, you simple add 'not'. Preferably the short form "n't"

She isn't happy.
They aren't funny.
I'm not happy.
